Fashion is something that is constantly changing, more quickly than other areas of human behaviour. Clothes, and the way that they are worn, are an especially visible aspect of fashion, as they are often seen to communicate a lot about someone. For example, a tailored suit may be worn to communicate power and formality, while ripped jeans and a T-shirt may indicate casualness and nonconformity.
Fashion has also been used to express solidarity with others or to challenge dominant cultural norms and values. For example, women wearing hats with a long feather in the 1920s were seen as showing their independence from men and society.
People are constantly looking for inspiration and new ways to express themselves, which makes fashion an important part of our lives. The most important thing to remember about fashion is that it is a choice- everyone can decide for themselves what clothes and styles they like and want to wear.
When it comes to clothing, designers are key players in determining how fashions change and how quickly. They are the main force behind deciding whether something is in or out of fashion and if it is worthwhile bringing it back in again. Designers can influence fashion trends by designing and creating clothes, and they also have an important role to play in fashion journalism, which is found in magazines, newspapers and television articles as well as on fashion websites and blogs.
Trying to define fashion is almost impossible as it is always changing and evolving, but for me, it’s a mix of change and inspiration- every designer has a different idea about what their creations should be and what kind of message they should convey. It is the same as with art- it has no limits except the ones you set yourself.
